Setting Up Google Authenticator for Browser (Chrome etc.)

Why use a browser extension? If you face issues using mobile phone authenticator apps (e.g., clock sync issues), you can use the Authenticator extension directly inside Google Chrome or Edge on your computer.

Part 1: Installing the Extension

  1. Step 1: Open Google Chrome, click the three menu dots in the top-right corner, go to Settings, and select Extensions from the left menu.
  2. Step 2: Click on Chrome Web Store link (or search for Chrome Web Store directly).
  3. Step 3: In the Web Store search bar, search for "Google Authenticator" or "Authenticator".
  4. Step 4: Click Add to Chrome on the Authenticator extension to install it.

Part 2: How to Use the Authenticator for Login

  1. Step 1: Go to the School Portal login page (Teacher / Student) and submit your initial login credentials (e.g., RegID, Name, Class, Year).
  2. Step 2: Once the page shifts to the 2FA / OTP page, copy the 32-character Secret Key displayed below the QR Code on your screen.
  3. Step 3: Click the Extension icon 🧩 at the top right of your Chrome browser and open Authenticator.
  4. Step 4: Click Add Account (or the + icon), then choose Manual Entry.
  5. Step 5: Fill in the fields:
    • Account Name: Type any label (e.g., your Name, RegID, or Email). It does not have to be a Google email!
    • Secret Key: Paste your 32-character Secret Key.
  6. Step 6: Click Add. A live 6-digit OTP code will be generated.
  7. Step 7: Enter the 6-digit OTP code on the login page to complete your login!
